INSTRUCTIONS TO AUTHORS
BASIC INSTRUCTIONS TO AUTHORS
The Kritical Reason think tank publishes scientific studies in the form of articles and book reviews. The areas in which Kritical Reason is active are as follows: Political Science; Political Theory; History, both of factual events based on original archival findings and of ideas; Sociology; Law and History of Literature and Art. The basic aim is the creative interaction of the contributors, collaborators and authors of Kritical Reason with the wider field of social sciences, in order to cultivate and promote critical thinking and the subsequent production of critical discourse. The texts sent to the Editorial Group review are subjected to a "blind peer review" carried out under the supervision of the relevant scientific collaborators and contributors of the respective collective volume, according to the scientific subject matter to be reviewed. The decision of the reviewers of the Κritical Reason Series will be communicated to the authors of the articles within six months of the original date of submission of their studies. Articles for publication should be accompanied by an additional text providing the author's details (name, contact details e.g., telephone and e-mail, and current academic status). Finally, the attached Word file should include short abstracts (up to 250 words) in English (and in Greek if the text uses the Greek language).
Text formatting
The texts are written in Greek, English, French or German, and must be submitted in a Word document. The font should be 12 point (Georgia). Punctuation should be double-spaced. Footnotes shall be single-spaced and written in the same (Georgia) 11-point font. The text shall have consecutive numbered pages; they should be at the bottom of the page and shall have a title and subtitles. A summary of the titles and subtitles of the article to be submitted must be provided at the beginning of the text. The total number of words for the text, numbered footnotes and bibliography may not exceed 7,000. Original scientific papers which objectively contribute something new and substantial to the scientific field in question may exceed this limit, however the authors must provide a justification letter to the Editorial Committee for the extended length. This letter shall be written in a separate Word document, shall not exceed 500 words and shall be in the format specified above. The Editorial Committee will take the final decision on whether to accept the request to exceed the 7,000-word limit.
Emphasis on selected passages of the text or on individual words should be done exclusively by selecting italics and not by capital letters, or by shading (bold) or by underlining (underline). Quotations are indicated by the use of double quotation marks (" ") at the beginning and end of the quotation and emphasis is excluded. Quotation marks within other quotation marks are denoted by using a single quotation mark (‘ ’). The articles may be accompanied by tables, diagrams, etc. All tables and images are presented in a separate Word document and after a relevant reference within the main text (i.e., see diagram. 1, image. 2 etc. / photo . 3, table. 4 etc.). Diagrams or images of any kind never interfere with the flow of the text. The document including images, diagrams or photos can have a maximum length of 2 pages. Images, tables, etc. must be submitted in a separate single file. Within this file, the author's surname will be clearly indicated. The file will contain the complete description of the images, diagrams, etc. The publication or not of the images always depends on their quality and the specific commitments with the publisher.
Footnotes and bibliographic references
References should not be included in the body of the text. Footnotes are used for every bibliographic reference, as well as for any kind of clarifying comment or observation in the main text. If abbreviations are used, they should be stated in a separate list at the beginning of the text, just after the table of contents, labeled Abbreviations. The bibliography of each article, where necessary, is listed at the end of the text.
As with the bibliography, the list of references must have the following format:
Monographs:
The surname of the author(s) or contributor(s) is written in full. Then, the initial letter of the name is written. The release date follows. The title is written in italics. Finally, the place of issue is added. A colon is added and then the name of the publishing house is listed.
Example:
– Hobsbawm E. 1996. The Age of Extremes: A History of the World, 1914-1991, New York: Vintage Books.
Journal Articles:
The last name of the author(s) or other contributors is written in full. The first name is written simply by adding the first initial letter. Then the date of issue is added. The title should not be italicised, and should be enclosed in quotation marks. The journal title is added in italics and the volume number in non-italicised text. Finally, a colon is added and the number of pages of the article without any other indication.
Example:
Morozov K. 2019. “La Révolution 1917 et le mouvement socialiste face aux régimes autoritaires et totalitaires: conserver et protéger la mémoire des luttes”, Connexe 4: 133-146.
Electronic sources:
The last name of the author(s) or other contributors is written in full, followed by the initial of the first name. The title is added in italics. Finally, the URL of the electronic source is added. The retrieval date should be added in the form –/–/–.
